As your season enters the home stretch before harvest you should be sending in samples to ensure your crop isn’t hot. These tests are important and the data they provide can help you understand the genetics in your field under your conditions. Hemp Batch Tracker allows you to log these unofficial tests for your records.
Depending on what state you’re in you may have different sampling requirements and/or procedures. The list below will walk you through the steps for testing and some best practices.
- Begin sampling and document the process.
- Take note of which plants you sample from.
- Photos will help you compare the flower as you near harvest.
- Enter the details about the sample-taking process as notes in Hemp Batch Tracker.

- Each sample will need a Sample ID. This may be provided by your testing lab or you may have the ability to name it yourself. Either way you’ll want to follow the same protocol on each sample.
- COA
- Create Sample ID – Select the lab from the drop down. If the lab you use is not on that list you’ll need to add it through the “Add Lab” option.
- Enter the Sample ID for that particular sample. Again, this could be provided by the lab or you may need to generate it yourself. It needs to be unique to only that sample.
- If you are naming your samples yourself make sure the name makes sense for later reference. Ex: LowerFieldCherryWine2020
- “Active Sample” should be checked for any samples that are being used. You will uncheck that box at a later time.
- Click “Save“
- Repeat these steps for each sample you send out.
- COA
- When you get your COA back from the lab you’ll want to upload it to Hemp Batch Tracker. Because these are NOT official COA’s for your final harvest you’ll want to place them in your notes.
