Justin Trowbridge added to NE Hemp Industries Association Board

Justin Trowbridge

The Nebraska Hemp Industries Association has added our Business Development Officer, Justin Trowbridge, to their board this week.

Trowbridge, who has an extensive background in connecting industries to technology, will be advising on the technology piece of hemp production.

Contrary to what many people think, Agriculture has gone high tech in recent years. The farms of today are light years beyond what was imagined even 20 years ago. As technology advances the data driven decisions that can be made increase by the minute.

In my lifetime, AG Tech went from “You can’t do that!” to “Why can’t you do that yet?”. And that’s pretty cool.

– Justin Trowbridge

As the Business Development Officer for Contemporary Analysis, a data science consulting firm and parent company to Hemp Batch Tracker, he sits at the crossroads of agriculture and technology.

As we (Hemp Batch Tracker) move forward we’re excited to be a part of the educational component of Hemp in our home state.

Hemp & LEGO

As a kid almost everyone has played with Lego’s. As a parent almost everyone has stepped on one in the middle of the night. With the latest announcement from The Lego Group at least that is going to be an environmentally friendly pain in your foot.

Lego is such an influence on the Danish culture even the architecture gets a Lego feel by default. Since 1932 the little bricks have been fostering creativity and occupying the minds of millions of kids. (Your author included)

With billions of bricks in circulation Lego has a footprint on the environment. The bricks have all been petroleum based for decades. Because this isn’t a viable strategy into the next several decades a pivot needed to happen.

With the growing use of hemp based plastics it was a matter of time before someone adopted it as a mainstream solution. Lego embraced Hemp and is making strides to be all in on hemp bricks by 2030.

The Hemp Paradox: Are you transporting legal or illegal product?

Hemp is a unique crop for US Agriculture. If you think about corn producers they just grow a crop and sell it. At no point along the line are they threatened with legal action if they can’t prove its not soy beans. And not at face value either! They need to prove its corn with licenses, certificates, chain of custody, and more.

That is the hemp paradox. Unlike other crops people assume you’re growing cannabis until you can prove otherwise. This is especially difficult for law enforcement. They are looking for people who are breaking the law not people who are running a legitimate business.

Law Enforcement has a rough job. If you pull over a truck transporting plant matter you’re either dealing with hemp or cannabis. If you’re in a state where cannabis isn’t legal yet you could be dealing with a dangerous criminal element. Illegal marijuana is a lucrative business and a truckload could represent millions of dollars.

Compound the situation with the lack of ability to test in the field. A traffic stop for illegal marijuana could lead to a shootout or even worse. The last thing you want to do is lower your guard until you know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, its safe. At the very least its a mountain of paperwork to handle.

So to minimize the danger while doing their due diligence its easier and safer to confiscate and detain until all is clear. While this may be a safe way to do things, its counter productive to getting your legal product to market.

An article in the New York Post highlights such an incident. What was, at first, considered a massive drug bust was legal CBD. Read the full article here. The company had all the necessary documentation for their product, but a lack of understanding from a delivery driver caused the issue.

At Hemp Batch Tracker we are hoping to reduce or eliminate the stress involved with encounters with law enforcement. Our system allows quick and easy referencing of all the chain of custody documents needed to prove your product is Hemp. By cooperating with law enforcement from day 1 we hope to build a newfound trust between producers and regulators.

In their first year, U.S. hemp farmers struggle with bad weather, mold, inexperience

In the article “In their first year, U.S. hemp farmers struggle with bad weather, mold, inexperience” by Sophie Quinton and April Simpson, Stateline/Pew covered a topic that we are uniquely able to solve. Yes there is a glut of hemp this year, mainly because the infrastructure isn’t in place to handle processing.

Add to that the ability for the processors to pick and choose who they want to buy from and you’ve got a bottleneck. Hemp Batch Tracker gives farmers a new bargaining chip…hard data.

According to the laws of supply and demand Hemp is in the midst of a shift. High supply of raw material, low demand at the processor level (from capacity limits) and a high demand on the consumer level. In an environment like that you need something that makes your offering stand out.

When you track your hemp though Hemp Batch Tracker you have an advantage when you sell it. A processor will want quality hemp when they are spoiled for choice. With our solution you can prove your hemp is disease/mold free and compliant with all the regulations. One simple report gives your buyer all the data in a level of detail that your competitor is hard pressed to match.

Hemp Batteries more powerful than Lithium Batteries?

Have you ever really stopped to think about how many batteries you encounter in a single day? As I write this blog there are 6 within arms reach of me. That’s a lot of batteries that are destine to die one day.

Without stealing too much of the thunder for the article, the use of hemp is 1000 times less expensive than using traditional methods. The cost savings on that order are significant enough to change the way we think of electronics.

Below you’ll find the video explaining how this is possible. You can read the full article through the button at the bottom of the page.

Hemp Batch Tracker supporting Future Farmers of America (FFA)

Our friends over at the Nebraska Sorghum Board invited us to a Future Farmers of America fund raising lunch. With a good meal and great company on the menu we were happy to go.

As hemp continues to grow the farmers of today will turn to the farmers of tomorrow to be successful. Hemp is unlike any other crop grown in the US. Federally legal, quasi legal at the state level, and producers are required to prove its not something else at every turn.

Imagine asking to see lab results on a bushel of corn every time it changed hands. Hemp farmers will need tracking like ours to keep on top of things and remain compliant.

The Future Farmers of America does a phenomenal job teaching kids how to be successful in agriculture. Farming is becoming a high tech high stakes game and technology is leading the charge. We’re excited to be a part of a growing industry that embraces technology early on.

At Hemp Batch Tracker we’re here to be an advocate for the farmer and a voice of reason for the legislation. Our goal is to help everyone win with hemp.

1 Billion in Cannabis or Hemp field that tested hot?

Kern County Sheriff’s Department searched a hemp field in Bakersfield California on Oct 25th 2019.

During their search of the hemp fields they found over 10 million marijuana plants. The search was conducted with the FBI and Department of Fish & Wildlife.

The investigation noted the legal limit for hemp THC content (.3%) and that these fields were over that limit. The investigation is ongoing so they did not disclose what the actual THC level was.

The disturbing part of this story is how it was represented as a $1 billion dollar black market value. The photos appear to be a fiber hemp grow in plain view of the world.

Hemp is going to have a rough time until there is a methodology to the process. Our goal at Hemp Batch Tracker is to provide the needed documentation to help these stories remain in check.

This field could have easily tested .31% and therefore been over the hemp limit. But because of the numbers and the lack of understanding the figure was inflated to be sensational. Sensational stories sell advertising.

While a field testing “hot” can happen our hope is the documentation behind the production will help demonstrate biological error and not malicious intent. Hemp Batch Tracker will never be a “get out of jail free” solution nor do we claim it to be. Instead we can provide detailed records of what our users have done to be in compliance throughout the process.

Processor Shortage

Now more than ever being able to differentiate yourself from your competitors is vital to success. Imagine your a consumer looking at 2 bottles of CBD on a shelf. One bottle has little to no indication of where it came from or whats really in it. The other has a QR code you can scan and know more about the product than you ever dreamed possible. Which one do you feel more comfortable with and ultimately buy? Hemp Batch Tracker is setting the setting the stage for hemp producers to back the promise with data.

Hemp Batch Tracker

Welcome to the Hemp Batch Tracker website! We’ve been busy working on the solution itself. “The cobblers children have no shoes” goes the saying. And its somewhat true here.

We’re excited to be gaining so much momentum through presentations and events, even without this website. Now that we have it we’ll be better equipped to get the word out and let everyone see what we’ve been working on!

Thank you for your interest and we look forward to helping a growing industry (pun intended) get ahead of regulations for long term success!
